How to Make Delicious Coffee with the Bodum Chambord® 8 Cup French Press

Delicious coffee doesn’t need to be complicated; the French press system, by far the simplest of all brewing methods, is widely regarded as the key to making the tastiest cup of joe. Add ground beans and hot water, lower the plunger, then enjoy – it really is that easy. It’s no exaggeration to say that our Chambord® 8 Cup French Press has the potential to transform your experience of making and drinking coffee.

Like the famous château that shares its name, the Chambord® French Press is a true original with a timeless design and superior craftsmanship. Uncomplicated, efficient and stylish, Chambord® French Presses are trusted by millions of coffee lovers worldwide. They’re perfectly in keeping with the spirit of the French press system, which pares coffee making down to the essentials for the best results.

01

Coffee

Place your Chambord® 8 Cup French Press on a heatproof, non-slip surface. While holding the handle firmly, pull up the plunger and lift the lid off the carafe. The next step is to coarsely grind coffee beans and add them to the carafe (the Bodum® Bistro Electric Coffee Grinder’s French press setting makes this task simple). For brilliantly bold coffee, we recommend using about one rounded tablespoon of ground beans for every 4 oz. of water. The Chambord® 8 Cup has a 34 oz. capacity, so you’ll want to add about eight-and-a-half tablespoons when making eight cups of coffee.

Top tip:
fresh, lightly roasted beans possess a particularly pleasant, non-astringent flavour.

Water

Boil fresh water in your kettle (use 4 oz. per cup). Filtered water is preferable, as it has fewer impurities than water straight from the tap. When the kettle boils, wait 30 seconds so that the temperature drops to 92-96°C: that range brings out the very best in all coffees. Pour the water slowly into the carafe in a circular motion to ensure that the ground beans are covered evenly. Be careful not to overfill it – leave at least an inch of room at the top.

Top tip:
to be really precise, you could check the water temperature with a food thermometer.

Brew

Stir with a plastic or wooden spoon and remove the foam from the surface (leaving it would make the coffee more bitter). Put the lid back on the carafe and turn it to the ‘closed spout’ position to help retain heat. Four minutes is the optimum brewing time.

Here comes the most satisfying stage in the French press process. Hold the handle firmly and turn the carafe until the spout faces away from you. Gently push down on the plunger to stop the coffee brewing and lock the grounds at the bottom of the carafe. The plunger should descend smoothly; if not, simply stir the coffee and try again. Open the spout and serve – delicious coffee in minutes!

Enjoy

If you don’t have time to drink up before you head out, don’t worry. You can enjoy amazing, homemade coffee on the move with the Bodum® Travel Mug collection. We’ve chosen borosilicate glass for the carafe: it’s heat-resistant, non-stain and doesn’t impair the taste of coffee. The carafe is complemented by the cool-to-the-touch plastic handle, as well as the chrome-plated, stainless steel protective frame and safety lid with plunger.

Using a Bodum® French Press frees you from the mess and inconvenience of paper filters, which makes it a greener way to brew coffee. Plus, you’ll enjoy the truest flavour and aroma, as there’s nothing to stop the beans’ essential oils reaching your cup.

Carefully designed to maximise taste and minimise waste, the Chambord® 8 Cup French Press speaks to our core values. And did we mention that it’s dishwasher safe? Enjoying beautifully brewed coffee – rich, full-bodied and reinvigorating – has never been easier.
